John Cena Announces New WWE Championship and Annual Tournament

It looks like John Cena is helping WWE introduce a new championship and an annual tournament following his appearance at WWE Backlash.

The Cenation Leader opened his promo by acknowledging the loud reaction from the Tampa crowd. He thanked fans for the continued “one more match” chants. Cena said that while he personally felt satisfied with how his retirement played out, he appreciated how WWE used the moment to spotlight NXT talent against main roster stars.

He specifically namedropped Sol Ruca, Je’Von Evans, and Oba Femi, even doing Oba Femi’s signature strut as the crowd responded with loud “Oba” chants.

Cena then shifted to the main announcement, revealing plans for a new initiative called the “John Cena Classic.” This will be an annual tournament designed to give developmental stars opportunities against main roster talent. He also introduced the idea of a new championship associated with the concept.

However, Cena added a twist: the tournament winner would not automatically become champion. Instead, the title holder would be determined by fan votes, making audience participation a key part of the outcome.

He said the idea was not meant to be a one-off. He sees it being a long-term platform to elevate rising talent on a bigger stage. Cena closed by thanking WWE, the fans, and the city of Tampa before signaling it was time for the main event.
