IYO Sky shares an emotional tribute to Asuka after their match at WWE Backlash.
Following months of build-up, IYO Sky faced her former mentor Asuka in a one-on-one match at WWE Backlash. The two superstars put on an excellent performance, which ended with Sky getting the pin after a German suplex and moonsault combination. They also shared an emotional moment after the contest.
After the event, IYO Sky took to X/Twitter to share an emotional tribute to The Empress of Tomorrow, saying their story had its final chapter at WWE Backlash. She also reflected on her time with her former mentor and expressed gratitude for everything she learned from her.
“Our story comes to its final chapter with today’s match. The moment the match ended, my heart was filled with all sorts of emotions. Meeting ASUKA-san, Spending the same time together, Being able to learn so much up close— These are irreplaceable treasures to me. Thank you so much ASUKA-San. We love you ASUKA-San,” IYO Sky wrote.
Big E questioned Asuka’s future in WWE
After losing the hard-fought match, Asuka broke character and embraced IYO Sky in the ring. Big E addressed it during the WWE Backlash Post-Show, speculating whether Asuka’s gesture signified her exit from the promotion or retirement.
“I wonder if this was a goodbye. We have never really seen Asuka this emotional. If this is goodbye, I know she will be dearly missed. She has been a pioneer. She has done truly incredible things in the ring before she even got to WWE, but has further staked her claim as an all-time great here in WWE. I don’t know what this means,” Big E said.
WWE released her Kabuki Warriors partner, Kairi Sane, as part of the post-WrestleMania 42 talent cuts.
