New behind-the-scenes details emerge on WWE WrestleMania potentially heading to Ireland.
Last week, Kilkenny Councilor Maurice Shortall spoke to the Irish Mirror about Ireland potentially hosting WWE WrestleMania in the future, saying the country is “well placed” to do so. Now, Corey Brennan of Fightful (Via Fightful Select) has obtained more details about the proposal.
According to the report, those close to the hoped project consider WWE WrestleMania coming to Ireland a “long-term project,” and one that can be achieved if the Irish government views the country as a “global sporting hub.”
Croke Park, an 82000-capacity stadium in Dublin, Ireland, is considered a possible venue for WWE WrestleMania. However, those Fightful spoke to actively dismissed concerns about nearby residents, who have infamously caused obstacles to major events in the past. They cited the NFL’s successful games in the stadium and the upcoming Manchester United and Leeds match in August as reasons not to worry.
Additionally, it is expected that Ireland should at least match the $6 million bid Las Vegas made to host WWE WrestleMania, something sources in the Irish wrestling scene view as a major roadblock. Also, the Irish weather being an issue due to Croke Park not having a roof is also a concern.
It was also estimated that hosting WrestleMania in Ireland would bring in close to 300 million Euros to the country’s economy.
After two consecutive years in Las Vegas, WrestleMania is heading to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, next year. WWE President Nick Khan also recently teased a surprise location for WrestleMania 44 in 2028.
