Brian Cage Returns to AEW Dynamite Looking Absolutely Jacked

Brian Cage made his long-awaited return to AEW Dynamite on May 13 after more than a year away recovering from a serious knee injury.

While the comeback itself was already a major surprise, fans immediately noticed something else — “The Machine” looked every bit as physically imposing as ever after his brutal rehab journey.

Cage answered Kevin Knight’s TNT Championship open challenge during Dynamite in Asheville, North Carolina. The return marked Cage’s first AEW television appearance in 14 months following knee surgery and several reported setbacks during recovery.

Earlier this year, Cage openly described the rehabilitation process as some of the most painful work of his career. He also admitted there had been additional pain and irritation during recovery, which forced him to avoid giving any firm timetable for a return. Apparently, though, the only thing stronger than Cage’s rehab pain was his leg day schedule.

During the broadcast, Renee Paquette specifically acknowledged Cage’s lengthy absence while commentary heavily stressed the significance of his return. Cage also arrived alongside fellow members of The Don Callis Family, including Lance Archer, Rocky Romero, and Trent Beretta, confirming he remains aligned with the faction.

Cage controlled large portions of the TNT Championship match and showcased the power offense that made him one of AEW’s most physically dominant stars before the injury.

However, outside interference from the Don Callis Family was eventually neutralized by Mike Bailey, allowing Knight to regain momentum and retain the championship.

Despite the loss, Cage’s return instantly reinserted him into AEW’s crowded heavyweight scene.

The 42-year-old has been part of AEW since debuting at Double or Nothing in 2020 and previously held the FTW Championship while also finding success in ROH as Television Champion and Six-Man Tag Team Champion.

Before the injury, Cage had started building momentum heading into 2025 before suffering the knee issue during an independent match against Chris Masters.

Now officially back on Dynamite, Cage’s return appears to mark the beginning of his next chapter in AEW — even if his first night back didn’t end with championship gold.
