TNA iMPACT Results
TNA iMPACT is live tonight from the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium on AMC!
Kicking off the show is the TNA World Championship #1 Contender’s Battle Royal. The System’s Eddie Edwards and TNA World Tag Team Champions Brian Myers and Bear Bronson make their way to the ring accompanied by Alisha Edwards. Next up is the Mystic Cowboy Prophet, Elijah. We also see Sacramento’s own Mustafa Saed, one-half of The Gangstas in ECW, show up as a surprise entrant carrying a trash can. Saed immediately takes out Bear Bronson with a trash can lid to the head as the battle royal officially begins.
TNA World Championship #1 Contenders Battle Royal
- The finish of the match saw Eric Young hit Elijah with a low blow to score the final elimination.
Winner and new TNA World Title #1 Contender: Eric Young
Grade: B-
That battle royal was quick, but that’s understandable given that we have a two-out-of-three falls match as the main event. Mustafa Saed’s appearance was a surprise. This writer was rooting for Special Agent Zero to last longer, but he was eliminated in the opening minutes. Elijah was my pick to win, but it appears we will have to wait a little longer before he gets a shot at the TNA World Title.
We hear from Leon Slater
Leon Slater addresses his upcoming X Division Championship match against Cedric Alexander. Slater says he has never been more ready and adds that he is getting another opportunity to make history tonight. Slater references becoming the youngest X Division Champion at Slammiversary and says he will go from the “youngest to the greatest” when he beats Cedric to become the longest-reigning X Division Champion. The Hardys appear and show support for the Youngest In Charge as we move on to the next segment.
Mustafa Ali is pissed
Gia Miller is backstage with Order 4. Mustafa Ali is disappointed that Order 4 has failed him yet again, but Ali says he has found a magic lamp. Ali’s wish to the genie is to be the very best in the company. He then announces that he will defend the International Title next week on TNA iMPACT.
Order 4 leaves, but Gia Miller stops Jason Hotch to tell him he did a good job in the battle royal, seemingly sowing the seeds for Hotch’s eventual move as a solo act. Eric Young then barges into the room, looks into the camera, and takes credit for taking out Joe Hendry and Ricky Sosa before calling out TNA World Champion Mike Santana.
We hear from TNA Knockouts Champion Lei Ying Lee
Lei Ying Lee says last Thursday was the best night of her life when she beat Arianna Grace to bring the TNA Knockouts World Title back home and become a two-time world champion in the process. Lee says she is proud of herself. She references the language barrier before taking the opportunity to thank the fans.
Xia Brookside interrupts and sets her sights on the TNA Knockouts World Title. Lee tells Xia she is tired of her before beginning to cut her promo in Mandarin. Xia says she will not be doing any more translating for Lee and tells her to start addressing her “stupid fans” in English.
Lee gets fired up and calls Xia out for a match “right here, right now in Sacramento, bitch.” Xia approaches the ring but stops. She tells Lee that she has destroyed her mentally and emotionally and will now destroy her physically before dropping a curse word in Mandarin.
We hear from The System
Eddie Edwards complains about being robbed of a TNA World Title opportunity. Edwards reveals that The System took out Moose last week. Brian Myers says they do not want to hear Moose’s stupid name again before dropping The System’s catchphrase. Bear Bronson then does The System chant, only louder, prompting Alisha Edwards to tell him to calm down.
Cedric Alexander says that with Moose being a non-factor, there is nothing stopping him from beating Leon Slater for the TNA X Division Title in tonight’s main event.
‘The Dean of Mean’ Keith Jardine appears on TNA iMPACT
“The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine is ringside to promote the movie Over Your Dead Body. Jardine promises the film will be violent, something TNA can appreciate.
The Personal Concierge appears and tries to talk over Jardine, but apparently he cannot hear The Elegance Brand’s mouthpiece from a few feet away. Mr. Elegance mocks Jardine, but the former MMA star fires back by referring to the group as hoes. Security eventually intervenes as we move on to the next match.
KC Navarro vs. AJ Francis – Sactown Street Fight
- The finish of the match saw AJ Francis drive KC Navarro through two tables with a Down Payment chokeslam before scoring the pinfall.
Winner: AJ Francis
Grade: A-
I nearly popped out of my chair when KC Navarro reversed Francis’ chokeslam into a cutter onto the stacked chairs. That was brutal. Francis ultimately sealed the win with a chokeslam through two tables. I also enjoyed NBC broadcaster Chris Caray on commentary. Navarro and Francis are now tied at one win apiece, and it remains to be seen if we get a tiebreaker somewhere down the line.
We hear from TNA World Champion Mike Santana
TNA World Champion Mike Santana is in the ring, taking a moment to soak in the “Santana” chants. He says he could do this all night, but before he gets started, he asks Sacramento what’s good. Santana fires up the crowd in his native language.
He says that where he comes from, he was taught to speak through his actions, and that is what propelled him to TNA’s mountain top. Santana then turns his attention to new No. 1 contender Eric Young, calling him a foundational pillar of TNA but noting he is no stranger to taking on all challengers. He hopes Eric Young brings the fight, because he is ready for it.
TNA Director of Operations Daria Rae interrupts and tells Santana that while he may be looking forward to facing Eric Young, Young is not actually the next challenger. She references Santana vs. Maclin from TNA Sacrifice, reminding the champion that he never beat the challenger. Santana responds, saying she is right, because he “dropped his ass.”
Huge rematch set for TNA iMPACT next week
Daria Rae announces that Maclin has been medically cleared and will face Santana next week. She sarcastically says she did not need Santino Marella’s input and that she already proposed the match to the TNA board, who approved it. Santino Marella’s music hits, and Daria Rae is shocked.
Marella arrives to a huge pop and implies Rae got his flight canceled the last time he was supposed to appear on TNA iMPACT. Santino agrees that Santana vs. Maclin is a big-money rematch. He also reveals that Indi Hartwell, who was recently suspended by Daria Rae, has re-signed with TNA Wrestling.
Daria tries to stir controversy by bringing up Santino’s estranged relationship with his daughter Arianna Grace. Marella says he loves his daughter but has a problem with Stacks. He adds that he does not want to use bad language, but his heart wants to.
Santana takes over and tells them that whoever they put in front of him, the outcome will remain the same: his foot up their ass because he spins the block.
Rosemary & Allie vs. Victoria Crawford & Mila Moore
- The finish of the match saw Rosemary hit Victoria Crawford with a modified double underhook DDT for the win.
Winners: Rosemary & Allie
Grade: B-
Good but not great as far as in-ring action goes. I must say that TNA has been mostly consistent when it comes to creative direction for the Knockouts division. Rosemary’s character has always been fascinating, and Allie’s return adds to the intrigue.
We hear from Broken Hardys
Matt Hardy cuts a prophetic promo on The Righteous behind a locked cage door. He warns Vincent and Dutch they have revived a far more sinister side of The Hardys before issuing a challenge. Jeff Hardy shows up with his eyeballs turned white, signaling a full-fledged return to the Brother Nero persona. Matt continues to cut his promo as Jeff hums a tune in the background, and the two end the promo with the ominous word “obsolete.”
Leon Slater (c) vs. Cedric Alexander – TNA X Division Title 2-out-of-3 Falls Match
- Leon Slater picks up the first fall, reversing Cedric Alexander’s Lumbar Check attempt into a pinfall in the opening seconds of the match.
Just in: Tom Hannifan announces the return of Ultimate X at TNA Slammiversary on June 28, where the X Division Championship will be on the line.
- Alexander ties the score after hitting Slater with a Lumbar Check in his third attempt.
- Alexander scores the third and final fall after hitting Leon Slater with multiple Lumbar Checks.
Winner and new TNA X Division Champion: Cedric Alexander
Former WWE star makes TNA debut
Before Cedric Alexander can celebrate, the lights go out to reveal the newest addition to TNA: Fabian Aichner, formerly known as Giovanni Vinci in WWE. The show ends with Aichner pointing at Alexander, letting him know he is after the X Division Championship.
Grade: A+
We got a PPV-caliber match on free TV. Leon Slater was so close to making history but had the opportunity snatched from him. Still, he ends his X Division title run with an excellent performance. Congratulations to Cedric Alexander on ending what was arguably a historic title run. The Super Styles Clash was so cool.
What really stood out was that these two warriors brought extra physicality to the match, with stiff strikes and blood, a rare yet welcome departure from the fast-paced action X Division title matches are known for. The post-match arrival of Fabian Aichner signals that business has picked up in the X Division. I’ve been a fan of Aichner since day one, and hopefully TNA is the right place for him to showcase his incredible in-ring work.
Overall Grade: A-
TNA once again proves why live iMPACT! episodes are must-see TV. Yes, there were some downsides, such as The Elegance Brand segment with Keith Jardine and the Knockouts tag team match, but they were completely overshadowed by the Street Fight and the incredible two-out-of-three falls main event between Leon Slater and Cedric Alexander.
Aichner’s arrival in the iMPACT Zone has the potential to bolster the X Division. It also appears Leon Slater will now set his sights on the TNA World Title following tonight’s main event loss, which honestly seems like the right direction for him, or a move to WWE could be on the cards. Who knows? That’s it for tonight, and this writer will be back with more coverage next week.
