John Cena Referenced at TNA Slammiversary

WWE legend John Cena was referenced at TNA Slammiversary.

Ahead of the TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view, commentators Matthew Rehwoldt, Tom Hannifan, and Director of Operations Daria Rae appeared on the countdown show, breaking down the matches on the main card. As they were discussing the Ultimate X Match for the X-Division Championship, Rehwoldt dropped a reference to 17-time WWE Champion John Cena.

The panel was discussing Amazing Red’s return to the promotion, as the veteran will compete in a TNA ring for the first time in 15 years later today. As they continued, Matthew Rehwoldt spoke about the influence Amazing Red has had on every wrestler across the pro wrestling industry. He pointed out that even John Cena performed his signature move, the Code Red, referring to the legend hitting it on Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2025.

“That is a statement unto itself. Amazing Red is somebody who’s had such an impact, pun intended, on this company, on the entire X-Division, and on 90% of the guys in that locker room. I mean, you’ve seen the Code Red. John Cena did the Code Red, a shout-out to the champ. But, yeah, this guy has influenced so many people across the border, across the companies, across the world in professional wrestling. He’s the definition of the X-Division,” he said.

Cedric Alexander will defend the X-Division Championship in the Ultimate X match against Leon Slater, Frankie Kazarian, Mr. Elegance, Fabian Aichner, KC Navarro, and Amazing Red in the opening match of TNA Slammiversary.
