Naraku, formerly known as EVIL in NJPW, recently explained why he decided to leave NJPW and join WWE. The Japanese star officially debuted in WWE NXT a few weeks and has already started making an impact on the brand.
Naraku first appeared on the April 28 episode of WWE NXT when he confronted Tony D’Angelo. Last week, he competed in his first WWE match against Lince Dorado and picked up a dominant victory.
During the match, Naraku controlled most of the action before finishing Dorado with a fisherman’s suplex, a snap suplex, and an STO for the win. The victory marked his first official win in WWE.
Naraku explains why he joined WWE
Following the recent announcement of his marriage to WWE star Iyo Sky, Naraku spoke with Tokyo Sports (per Mera Wrestling) about both their relationship and his WWE move. He said, “I’ve already sufficiently made the Japanese pro wrestling world my own, haven’t I? In that sense, wasn’t there a very good chance of that happening?”
He suggested that after accomplishing so much in Japan, moving to WWE felt like the natural next step in his career. When asked directly why he chose WWE, Naraku gave a very direct answer. “Money, status, and honor.”
