WWE fans found themselves doing a double-take during the May 19 episode of WWE NXT after heavily hyped newcomer Mason Rook made his official in-ring debut.
While Rook’s dominant performance grabbed attention, many viewers online quickly became fixated on something else entirely — his entrance music.
Several fans immediately pointed out similarities between Rook’s new theme and the old entrance music associated with former WWE star Chris Benoit.
In particular, listeners focused on the heavy guitar riffs and a specific sound effect that appears later in the track.
Fans compare Mason Rook’s theme to Chris Benoit’s old WWE music
Social media lit up during Rook’s entrance as fans shared their reactions online. X user @RektTitan wrote, “Those Benoit chords hit hard lmao,” while @BroncosCulture posted, “that theme sounds like chris benoit lol.”
Others heard the same connection almost immediately. “Yo, am I bugging but I can hear the Benoit theme in there,” wrote @Savage91R, complete with laughing emojis. @RaphaCertified added, “Mason Rook theme song sounds similar to Chris Benoit’s Whatever,” while @WrestlingFanLow simply noted, “Lowkey sounds like chris benoit theme.”
Despite the comparisons, longtime fans quickly clarified that the track is not directly connected to Benoit. Rook’s entrance theme is actually a stock production song titled “Grizzly” by composer Peter Jay Jordan.
WWE previously used the same music years ago for Mason Ryan in the WWE ’12 video game, leading some fans to joke that the company just dusted off an old “Mason R” file from the archives.
The timing of the discussion proved pertinent during a strong week for Rook himself. The former Will Kroos officially debuted in the ring alongside Kam Hendrix and picked up a victory over NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo and North American Champion Myles Borne.
For Rook, the entrance theme chatter may prove to be background noise — but in wrestling, fans always know when something strikes the wrong chord or the right riff.
