Darby Allin busted himself open with his Mick Foley tribute spot at AEW Double or Nothing.
Darby Allin walked into the main event of Double or Nothing to defend his AEW World Championship against MJF after a fiery pre-show pep talk from Mick Foley. After seven successful title defenses heading into the event, Allin looked to do it once more and shave MJF’s head bald at the event.
Both superstars put on a hard-hitting performance that lasted a little over 23 minutes. The match featured a brutal spot, which saw Darby Allin pay tribute to Mick Foley. After knocking out MJF momentarily with a front guillotine, Allin placed him on the barber’s table on the stage. He then climbed atop the scaffolding, did Foley’s bang bang gesture, and performed a coffin drop onto the challenger through the table.
However, Darby Allin ended up busting himself open in the back of his head due to the impact. A recent report noted that the New York State Athletic Commission did not allow blood or brawling through the crowd at AEW Double or Nothing, which makes it clear that Allin’s bleeding was an accident.
While he recovered the spot and continued the match, Darby Allin couldn’t get the job done. In the end, MJF countered Allin’s coffin drop attempt into an avalanche tombstone piledriver and a side headlock takedown combination to get the pin. He saved his hair and also became a three-time AEW World Champion.
