Sol Ruca recently opened up about how she first reacted after receiving a WWE tryout opportunity.
The rising WWE star admitted that she originally thought the company was connected to the UFC before learning more about professional wrestling. Since arriving on the main roster after WrestleMania 42, Sol Ruca has quickly become one of the WWE’s fastest-rising stars.
She has already competed in major matches against stars like Liv Morgan, Iyo Sky, and Becky Lynch.
Sol Ruca recalls thinking WWE was UFC
Speaking to KVAL News, Sol Ruca explained that she knew very little about wrestling before WWE contacted her through social media. She said, “So I didn’t really know much about wrestling when I got here. I was doing social media full-time. And I was an online personal trainer living in Hawaii when I got a DM from the WWE Recruit page, and they asked if I wanted to do a tryout.”
At first, Ruca misunderstood the message and believed the offer was related to UFC fighting. “Honestly, at first I thought it was the UFC and was like, ‘I don’t know how to fight, I’m not gonna do that.’ Did my research and was like, ‘Okay, this is sick, I think I could do this,’ might as well go on a tryout. If I don’t make it, it’s a cool story to tell people. And if I do, hell yeah, let’s do it.”
She also reflected on attending her tryout at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. She discussed realizing how much she missed being part of a competitive athletic environment. “So (they) flew me out to Orlando, I had my tryout at the Performance Center, and I absolutely loved it.”
“Walking in, having the music blaring, and it was such a good team, and I had just graduated. I was an athlete my entire life, so I had like a year break from graduation until I got signed, and during that time, I was like, ‘This is what I’m missing, I miss this kind of teamwork and competitiveness.’ And that’s kind of when I knew this is what I wanted to do.”
