WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Sol Ruca is known today for her incredible athleticism and high-flying offense. Her signature Sol Snatcher has become one of the most talked-about finishers in wrestling. However, things were not nearly as easy when she first arrived in WWE.
While Ruca has become one of NXT’s biggest success stories, she recently revealed that her early training days were filled with doubt, frustration, and challenges.
Speaking on The Nikki & Brie Show, Sol Ruca reflected on what it was like entering WWE’s developmental system with no prior wrestling experience. Ruca admitted the experience was intimidating from the very beginning. Unlike many of her classmates, she had never wrestled before joining WWE.
Sol Ruca opens up about her difficult WWE NXT training experience
“Yeah, somewhat, but it was also absolutely terrifying just because I was the only girl that was signed in my class that didn’t have prior wrestling experience. Like, everyone else was on the indies for a little bit and I got thrown into a class with girls who had already been here for a few months that were like the previous signed class.”
“So, just being thrown into that situation, we would run through drills and stuff, and I’d still be like, ‘What is going on?’ Like, ‘What is a front bump? What is this bump? What is a shoulder roll?’ And just being thrown into that.”
Sol Ruca thought she would lose her job after a difficult training day
Ruca also recalled one particularly difficult day during training. She struggled with a drill and became convinced she was about to lose her job. “I remember one of the days we had a drill, and I was just not picking it up. Then Coach Bloom walked in, and I was just like, ‘Oh no, he’s going to fire me. Something’s going to happen. I’m not doing well.'”
“And I ended up crying because I was just frustrated. I was like, ‘I don’t know what’s going on.’ But he talked to me like, ‘It’s okay. You’re just learning. Just get back in there. We’ll walk you through it.’ And then it ended up being fine. But it was just really, really stressful, you know, being in there with people that know what’s going on and are super passionate about wrestling and know all the history.
“Then there’s me, who just feels really far behind in that sense. But I think it ultimately helped me learn really, really quickly. I think that’s part of the reason why I debuted so fast, because I was thrown into the deep end. You know, I had my ups and downs, but I figured it out.”
