The wrestling world has lost another familiar name from the territory era, as former WCW and WWF competitor Jerry Grey, known to fans as “Golden Boy” Jerry Grey, has passed away at the age of 62.
News of Grey’s passing was announced by the Cauliflower Alley Club, which paid tribute to the longtime wrestler and remembered the bond he shared with many throughout the industry.
While Grey had been publicly battling stage 4 colon cancer since 2019, it has not been officially confirmed whether his death was directly connected to the illness.
Jerry Grey remembered for career across WWF, WCW and NJPW
The Cauliflower Alley Club shared an emotional statement following Grey’s passing, writing: “Today, I lost more than a friend… I lost a brother.”
The statement continued: “Please join the Cauliflower Alley Club and I as we remember a dear friend, Jerry Grey, who’s passed away at the age of 62. We send our sincerest condolences to his family and friends, rest easy old friend.”
An Akron, Ohio native, Grey began his wrestling career in 1981 and competed across several major promotions throughout the 1980s.
His resume included appearances in the WWF, WCW, USWA, WCCW, UWF, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling. In an era packed with larger-than-life personalities, Grey quietly built a reputation as a dependable in-ring performer. He could make any match shine brighter than championship gold.
Among his championship accomplishments were runs as NWA Bahamas Heavyweight Champion, NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Champion, and NWA Florida Tag Team Champion. Grey initially stepped away from wrestling in 1988 before returning for another run between 2006 and 2009.
In 2022, supporters launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Grey with mounting medical costs related to his cancer battle. The fundraiser collected more than $36,000 from fans and peers across the wrestling community.
Tributes have continued pouring in following the announcement. Many are reminiscing about Grey’s decades-long connection to professional wrestling and the friendships he built along the way.
