The wrestling world is saddened by the passing of Carol Sammartino, the wife of WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino. She passed away on March 4, 2026, at the age of 96.
Even though she passed away in early March, the family chose to keep it private until late April. The news was shared publicly weeks later by her son Darryl Sammartino during the “Bruno Forever” event, where he spoke with journalist Bill Apter.
During the event, Darryl spoke about his mother’s final years and how difficult things had become for the family.
“So, my mom passed away March 4th, 2026. She was in a home for about 16 months. And since my dad and my twin brother, my twin brother passed away 6 months after my dad. So, for the last 8 years, she’s just, you know, slowly deteriorated. And she was suffering towards the end. So, she’s not suffering anymore, which I’m very happy about. That’s it. Nobody deserves that,” Darryl said.
The Cauliflower Alley Club pays tribute to Carol Sammartino
Carol Sammartino was more than just the wife of a wrestling legend. She was a strong and supportive presence behind the scenes throughout Bruno’s career. The couple got married in 1959 and spent nearly 60 years together. They had three sons- David, Danny, and Darryl.
Carol’s legacy also lives on through the Bruno and Carol Sammartino Foundation, which helps people in need with food, shelter, and other basic support in Western Pennsylvania.
After the news became public, many people from the wrestling world shared their condolences. The Cauliflower Alley Club, a respected non-profit fraternal organization for wrestlers and boxers, also shared a heartfelt message.
“The Cauliflower Alley Club extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Carol Sammartino, who passed away at the age of 96. Rest in peace, Mrs. Sammartino,” they tweeted.
Carol Sammartino’s passing marks the end of an important chapter for the Sammartino family. She is now reunited with Bruno and her son, Danny.
Even though she stayed mostly out of the public eye, her impact was undeniable. Those who knew her remember her as a true pillar of the Sammartino family.
