Chris Jericho finally picked up a win over Ricochet on the May 27 episode of AEW Dynamite, but his celebration did not last long. Just moments after the match ended, Tommaso Ciampa started a new feud after a surprise attack on Jericho.
Jericho and Ricochet kicked off Dynamites with everyone banned from ringside to settle the rivalry without outside interference. The match lasted more than 14 minutes.
Ricochet started strong with quick attacks, dropkicks, and a big dive to the outside. He kept the pressure on with several aerial moves and nearly won within the opening minutes.
Things got more intense once the fight moved outside the ring. Ricochet targeted Jericho’s leg and slammed him into the announce desk and steel steps. Jericho fought back by locking Ricochet in the Walls of Jericho on top of the announce table.
Back in the ring, both men traded big moves during the second half of the match. Jericho hit a Death Valley Driver on the apron, while Ricochet answered with dives, suplexes, and a Phoenix Splash that almost ended the match.
At the end, Ricochet tried to cheat with a low blow while the referee was distracted and followed it with the Ricosault, but Jericho kicked out. Ricochet then went for a 630 senton, but Jericho moved out of the way just in time.
Jericho hit a Codebreaker, though Ricochet still survived. Finally, Jericho connected with the Judas Effect and followed it with a Lionsault to get the pinfall victory. It was Jericho’s first win over Ricochet after weeks of rivalry between the two.
But the real surprise came after the match.
Tommaso Ciampa Blindsides Chris Jericho After AEW Dynamite Win
As Jericho tried to recover, Ciampa suddenly ran into the ring and attacked him from behind. He beat Jericho down, choked him with his own shirt, and delivered his signature Knee Trembler.
The attack set up Ciampa as Jericho’s next big rival after Double or Nothing. Seems like AEW is wasting no time to use Jericho since his return.
The attack has sparked new speculation. The rivalry might also grow into a bigger faction feud involving Jericho, Adam Copeland, and Christian Cage against Ciampa and FTR.
