MJF’s First AEW World Title Defense Of Third Reign Set For Next Week

MJF didn’t waste much time celebrating his latest AEW World Championship victory before new challengers started circling him on Dynamite.

Just days after reclaiming the title at Double or Nothing, the self-proclaimed Devil found himself cornered by multiple stars looking to cut short his third reign before it truly gets rolling.

During the May 27 episode of AEW Dynamite in Philadelphia, MJF arrived for an extravagant in-ring celebration surrounded by giant “3” balloons and carried to the ring on a litter.

The new champion bragged about becoming a three-time world champion at just 30 years old and declared himself “the greatest wrestler in the world.”

Things quickly went sideways once Mark Briscoe interrupted the celebration and reminded MJF that he previously pinned him in the middle of the ring. Briscoe directly demanded a title opportunity, but MJF instantly shut him down.

MJF finally accepts AEW World Title match against Rush

MJF mocked Briscoe throughout the segment, calling him “nowhere near the level of the devil” before attempting to leave the ring entirely. However, the champion’s escape route hit a brick wall once Rush appeared near the stage.

Fresh off winning the Superstation Showcase four-way match earlier in the night, Rush accused MJF of avoiding real competition. “MJF isn’t a fighting champion,” Rush said before adding, “When you mess with the bull, you get the horns.”

At first, MJF tried dodging the challenge. In classic chickenshit heel fashion — a phrase Rush practically gift-wrapped for him — the champion insisted he had no interest in defending the title immediately. Still, after trading insults backstage and in the ring, MJF finally relented.

“The bull is gonna lock horns with the Devil,” MJF declared while officially setting the match for next week’s June 3 episode of Dynamite.

The upcoming title bout will mark MJF’s first defense since defeating Darby Allin at Double or Nothing.

With Rush already charging forward and Briscoe still waiting in the wings, MJF’s latest reign may already be heading into deep water — and the Devil suddenly has plenty to worry about.
