AEW World Champion MJF has given fans a positive update on the knee injury he suffered earlier this month on AEW Dynamite. Now, new footage has revealed exactly when the injury happened.
MJF was injured during his AEW World Championship match against Rush on the June 3 episode of AEW Dynamite. At first, many fans thought the injury happened during the brutal Tombstone Piledriver spot on the barricade. However, it is now clear that the injury actually occurred earlier in the match.
MJF’s injury happened during Rush’s corner strike
The injury happened when Rush charged into the corner and hit MJF with a running dropkick. As the move connected, Rush fell on MJF’s knee. MJF pulled his leg inward while trying to brace himself, causing his knee to bend awkwardly and be hyperextended.
Footage of the moment has now spread online, making it easier for fans to identify exactly when the injury occurred. Despite the setback, MJF managed to finish the match and successfully retain the AEW World Championship.
Friedman recently addressed the injury in an Instagram video while sitting in a cold plunge tub. He said the swelling in his knee had already gone down significantly and that his recovery was moving in the right direction. There is still some pain and swelling, but he feels much better than he did immediately after the match.
The injury did force at least one schedule change. MJF was pulled from Beyond Wrestling’s Break The Walls Down event, where he was originally scheduled to face Bobby Orlando. Former AEW star Andrade El Idolo was later announced as his replacement.
AEW is expected to continue using MJF in non-wrestling segments while monitoring his recovery. Most importantly, current plans for MJF at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 28 are reportedly still on track.
