Jade Cargill reveals why she doesn’t sign autographs.
Speaking on ESPN’s UnSportsmanLike, the former WWE Women’s Champion explained that she approaches fan interactions differently depending on the situation and audience.
“I do it at a time. It depends on who’s watching. I remember at the airport, William Regal, he came up to me. He was like, ‘Hey, you need to sign those autographs because one day nobody’s going to ask for your autograph.’ And I remember my husband saying that as well,” Jade Cargill said.
Cargill added that she tries to maintain kayfabe by staying in her heel character, even though fans often find her genuinely friendly when they meet her. She noted that this usually leads people to want to cheer for her instead of boo her, which goes against what she prefers.
“But I try to keep the kayfabe alive. So I want people to hate me, and I’m just such a lovable person. So when people meet me, they’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re actually really nice, you’re really down to earth.’ And so then they’re like, ‘Okay, well I want to cheer for you.’ And I’m like, no, you need to hate me. I don’t want you to like me, and this is the point.
“So unless it’s a kid. No, unless it’s a kid. And don’t pull your kids to sign your stuff. But unless it’s a kid, I’m probably just headlights just going. Don’t talk to me. I’m gone.
“And then they’ll say, ‘Oh, she has such an attitude and all this stuff.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, give it to me, please, because tomorrow when you come to the show, I want you to feel that, and I want you to bring that energy.’”
