Major TNA Contract Set To Expire Amid Years of WWE Interest

The future of TNA World Champion Mike Santana could soon become one of wrestling’s biggest talking points.

According to PWInsider, Santana’s current TNA contract is set to expire sometime in July, creating fresh intrigue around one of the promotion’s top stars.

While no decision has been announced regarding his next move, the timing is notable given WWE’s reported interest in Santana over the years.

With free agency potentially looming, attention is once again turning toward what comes next for the reigning TNA World Champion.

Mike Santana’s TNA future draws attention amid WWE interest

Santana’s rise to the top of TNA has been one of the promotion’s standout success stories.

After building his reputation as part of a successful tag team alongside Ortiz in both TNA and AEW, Santana chose a different path when he secured his AEW release in 2024.

Shortly afterward, he joined TNA and quickly established himself as a major singles competitor. His breakthrough moment came when he defeated Trick Williams to capture his first TNA World Championship at Bound for Glory.

Santana is currently in his second reign as TNA World Champion. His latest title run began on Jan. 15, 2026, when he defeated Frankie Kazarian during TNA’s AMC television debut. Since then, he has remained one of the company’s most prominent performers.

The WWE-TNA partnership has also increased Santana’s visibility. He has made multiple appearances on NXT and participated in the NXT vs. TNA Showdown event. Most recently, Santana teamed with OTM to defeat DarkState at NXT’s event at the Madison Square Garden Theater.

He also played a key role in leading Team TNA to victory at the crossover event before eventually bringing the TNA World Championship back to the promotion by defeating Trick Williams following Williams’ 140-day reign.

For now, Santana remains under contract with TNA and continues to carry the company’s top prize.

However, with July approaching and WWE’s long-standing interest well documented, fans may soon find out whether “The Standard of Excellence” stays put or opt to switch brands without even needing a tag.
