Former WWE Women’s Champion Candice Michelle recently shared her thoughts on the evolution of women’s wrestling. While praising the progress made by female wrestlers over the years, Michelle believes the industry is missing some of the femininity that once stood out in the division.
Over the years, women’s wrestling has changed significantly. More women now headline major shows and premium live events and also compete in high-profile matches.
Candice Michelle believes women’s wrestling needs more femininity
Speaking on TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Michelle was asked whether wrestling is missing some sexiness. She explained that she would like to see more femininity from women while still celebrating the progress they have made.
“I think what we’re missing is a little bit more of the femininity. And so what I mean by that is, you know, we’ve pushed so hard. Oh, women are equal to men, like we get equal time, you know, equal pay, and yeah, you know, there’s a part of that, but at the end of the day, like I want the men to be a little bit more masculine, you know. I want them to be so masculine that I get to drop into my femininity a little bit, you know, and some people look at that as sexiness.”
Michelle also noted that wrestling has never moved away from attractive presentation and even believes today’s product can be sexier in some ways. “I have never, I mean, wrestling has never shied away from sexiness. And if you look at WWE today or back then, or TNA today or back then, like every woman almost is hot.”
“I think there’s just a difference of, you know, how a woman moves, you know. Like we don’t have to do it the way a man does. And, you know, we had this intergender tag match not too long ago on TNA, and I just loved it because the men were so manly and the women were so great.”
“But the men were like lifting the women, and they were flying even more, and then the man tries to save the woman and he can’t, you know, and I was like, ‘Wow, this is like life.’ And I just loved it so much. But the way TNA brought this out of, like, you know, the women are powerful. And I want our men to be powerful, too. You know, I don’t want to be like we’re just as powerful. You know, it’s like, no, like we need both energies to make it beautiful.”
