The AEW World Championship bout between MJF and RUSH on the June 3 episode of AEW Dynamite pushed both competitors to their limits. Interestingly, the match nearly ended long before a winner could be determined.
What began as a hard-hitting title defense quickly escalated into a chaotic battle that left medical personnel concerned enough to intervene.
However, neither man appeared willing to let the contest end without a fight, keeping fans guessing until the final moments.
MJF and RUSH push AEW world title fight beyond the limit
The No Countout Match opened at a relentless pace. Both MJF and RUSH traded strikes before taking the action all around ringside.
Chairs, barricades, exposed turnbuckles, and even cable wires became part of the punishment as the champion and challenger turned the title match into a war of attrition.
As the match wore on, the damage began to mount. RUSH suffered a deep cut and bled heavily after being sent face-first into an exposed turnbuckle. Later, his injured left arm became a factor when it gave out during an attempted piledriver.
The situation reportedly became so severe that AEW medical staff entered the ring. They determined that neither competitor was medically fit to continue.
In a shocking twist, RUSH refused to accept the decision and headbutted the ringside physician, preventing an immediate stoppage.
That moment added another layer to an already heated contest. For wrestling fans, this served as a reminder that RUSH did not want to wave the white flag, even when the writing appeared to be on the wall.
The match briefly continued before the official ending arrived. After surviving the punishment and capitalizing on RUSH’s deteriorating condition, MJF ultimately retained the AEW World Championship via referee stoppage.
Following the match, Mark Briscoe stormed to the ring looking to confront the champion. MJF quickly exited the scene as additional competitors arrived, bringing one chapter of the night to a close while potentially opening another.
With MJF still holding AEW’s top prize, attention now shifts to who may step up next after one of Dynamite’s most physically demanding championship matches.
