Chad Gable Returns on WWE SmackDown

Chad Gable is back on WWE television.

Gable made his return on Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown, appearing in a backstage segment with Sami Zayn and Nick Aldis.

Later in the show, Chad Gable said he asked Nick Aldis to be at SmackDown so he could address Rey Fenix. He praised their WrestleMania 41 match, but said it was under false pretenses because he mocked his culture as El Grande Americano. Gable apologized to Fenix, who said he forgave Gable, but also reminded him that he wasn’t the only luchador who he offended.

Gable is coming off his highly successful run as the Original El Grande Americano, which ended after he lost a mask versus mask match to El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser) at AAA Noches de Los Grandes. This is Gable’s first appearance on WWE programming under his original name since last year. He adopted the Americano gimmick after he lost a string of matches to luchadores, and has not wrestled as Chad Gable since he lost to AJ Styles on June 9, 2025.

During his time as (Original) El Grande Americano, Gable won the WWE Speed Championship. Kaiser replaced him as Americano after Gable went down with a rotator cuff injury, which kept him sidelined until January 2026.
