Brock Lesnar‘s entrance music is iconic now to the WWE star. Before it became his in-ring entrance music, though, it originally had a different purpose.
Before Lesnar was making his entrance to the now iconic “Next Big Thing,” the theme music was actually the song for one of the original XFL teams. Social media users dug up this information a while back, but it’s making the rounds again now. Jim Johnston, a music producer who worked on a number of themes for WWE, made up the song, but not for Brock Lesnar.
Instead, Johnston originally created the song for the XFL’s Chicago Enforcers. A video of the team coming out of the tunnel for a game in 2001 highlights that. In the video, the Enforcers take the field against the LA Xtreme, and are making their way out to what is now Lesnar’s theme.
Of course, Brock Lesnar is no stranger to the world of football, so the connection is funny. Following his loss to Goldberg at WrestleMania XX, Lesnar sidelined his career in the ring to pursue one in the NFL.
Despite not playing any professional football prior, Brock Lesnar actually performed well at the NFL combine. He eventually signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2004. He played in a handful of preseason games as a defensive tackle, but was released ahead of the regular season.
As for the XFL, the league wouldn’t be as successful as Vince McMahon and then-WWF and NBC had hoped. The league was founded in 1999, had its first season in 2001, and ceased operations that same year. In 2020, the league popped back up again. This iteration of the XFL ran for three seasons with The Rock as one of the owners. Today, the league operates as the United Football League (UFL), a result of a 2024 merger of the XFL and USFL.
