AEW star Skye Blue recently shared how her wrestling journey began, which was to prove her mom wrong. Blue joined AEW in 2021 and since then, she has gained experience. She has also become a regular face on the roster.
Speaking on Close Up with Renee Paquette, Skye Blue recalled how wrestling first caught her attention. “So my parents have been fans their whole life, so it was always on in the house. But I didn’t really get into it until I was in high school.”
“And I had a bad day at school or whatever. My mom’s like, ‘Just come sit down and watch this.’ And I was like, ‘Okay.’ It was somebody’s hardcore match on. I was like, ‘Oh, this is cool.’ And I looked at her and said, ‘I’m going to do that.’ And she was like, ‘No, you’re not.’ And so then I had to prove her wrong.”

Paquette then asked what her parents thought about her wrestling career and hardcore matches. She said, “She was gung-ho for it the whole time. She was so excited. She was the most proud person. I’m so thankful for all her support.”
She continued, “My dad was a little iffy at first. He was like, ‘You’re doing what?’ And he was very like, I don’t know.’ But then when he saw, because I had to wrestle men at first, because I was the only girl for a really long time where I started, he was like, ‘You’re not complaining that you hurt?; And I’d come home with black eyes. I broke my elbow. I came home in a cast once, and he’s like, ‘What are you doing?’ I was like, ‘It’s okay. It’s fine.’ He goes, ‘If this is what you love.'”
