Pro Wrestling Matches Are Happening in Libraries Thanks to Lucha Libro

Pro wrestling has happened in some very unusual places over the years. Fans have seen matches in stadiums and empty arenas, cruise ships, beaches, swamps, parking lots, malls, military camps, and even WWE headquarters. Now, another unexpected location has joined that list. Professional wrestling is taking place inside libraries.

Lucha Libro is bringing pro wrestling matches to libraries

According to the Associated Press, Lucha Libro was established in 2024 by Jerry Rocha and Victor Dwight. It combines children’s story time with live professional wrestling. The wrestling style takes inspiration from the Mexican tradition of Lucha libre.

The promotion’s goal is simple: to make reading more exciting for children while introducing them to live professional wrestling. Lucha Libro events feature wrestlers reading books to kids. The story time is often followed by a wrestling match.

Several wrestlers have appeared at Lucha Libro events. The list includes Llama Jack, Victor Von Richter, Rufio Banderas, Loverboy Leo, Astro Knox, Jaguar Montoya, TJ Black, Hitman Wayne, Julz Rafael, Elliot Rey, Jiah “The Crazy Cajun” Jewell, El Chupacabra, Joey Gonzo, Young Steel, OC Hayes, and Sampiro.

A recent event took place at the Benicia Public Library in California. During the show, Llama Jack began reading the children’s book Llama Llama Time to Share. Before he could finish, a heel wrestler interrupted him.

The interruption led to a wrestling match in front of the fans. After picking up the victory, Llama Jack returned to the book and finished reading the story to the fans. The idea has quickly caught attention across the country. Lucha Libro already has more than 40 library events scheduled throughout 2026.
