WWE star Sol Ruca recently reflected on the torn ACL injury that sidelined her for nearly a year and explained how the setback changed her approach to training and recovery.
Ruca suffered the injury back in April 2023. She underwent surgery shortly after the unfortunate setback. WWE then wrote her off television through storyline. She eventually returned to action in March 2024.
Since then, her momentum has continued to grow quickly. That run eventually earned her a main roster call-up. Looking back, Ruca believes she was doing too much. During her early NXT days, she balanced wrestling, powerlifting, and gymnastics. She wanted to improve quickly, but feels that approach may have contributed to her injury.
WWE star Sol Ruca explains how injury changed her mindset
Speaking to the Italian Wrestling Channel before Clash in Italy, Sol Ruca admitted that her desire to be the best may have contributed to the injury.
“Every day I kind of just listen to my body and figure out what I need to work on, what I need to do. When I first got into NXT and into wrestling, I was doing powerlifting and I was doing gymnastics on the side and I ended up getting hurt and I think that was because I was just doing so much because I just wanted to be the best.”
The former NXT Women’s North American Champion explained that the injury taught her the importance of listening to her body rather than constantly pushing through fatigue. “But with wrestling it’s such a hard thing to do on your body, that you really have to listen to your body and understand what you need instead of pushing it.”
“So now I kind of just listen to my body and figure out, you know, do I need to do some calisthenics today, some like handstand work to get my spatial awareness a little bit better, or if I need to do some strength training or running, whatever that may be.” [H/T: Fightful]
