AEW’s Darby Allin Reveals Wild NYC Marathon Strategy After Admitting He Has No Running Experience

AEW‘s Darby Allin has a wild strategy to run in the New York City Marathon.

Darby Allin revealed that he plans to participate in the 2026 NYC Marathon. It will be the first time he takes part in the event, which takes place on November 1. According to him, it will also be the first time he’s running a long distance of any sort.

Darby Allin has a bold strategy for the marathon: embracing a completely untrained approach to the grueling 26.2-mile race. He has chosen to rely purely on his mental determination and a desire to “wing it” rather than traditional preparation.

“I don’t even have running shoes yet,” Allin told Jon Alba of The Takedown on SI. “I kind of want to just go into it fully blind. Everyone’s like, ‘you gotta know what you’re getting yourself into.’ I was like, I kinda wanna just wing it, and it sounds so fun. So I don’t know if I’ll if I actually train for it. Yeah. I kinda wanna just wing it and push myself.

Darby Allin climbed Mt. Everest last year

Darby Allin had previously intended to use the same approach while preparing to climb Mt.Everest last year. However, he was told he’d die if he didn’t train for the climb. As someone who knows how it feels to be exhausted for a long stretch, he believes his pro wrestling experience would help him finish the marathon.

“There’s been times in a match where I’m so physically spent, and then you have that very tail end of the match where you have to give everything in that very tail end, and you don’t think you can even stand, and your body knows how to swim in the deep end,” Allin said.

“So I feel like being in that mindset of pushing yourself to the absolute limit, that’s when I think about the marathon. I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna need to be in that mindset.’ Who knows, those last few miles, what my body’s gonna feel like, especially if I don’t train for it? So it’s gonna be fun to just see what I’ve learned from wrestling, what I can apply to running. So I’m really excited,” Allin said.

Allin will run the 2026 NYC Marathon in support of KultureCity, a nonprofit dedicated to sensory accessibility and inclusion for people with invisible disabilities. He will join a group of about fifty runners in the marathon. The race winds through all five boroughs of New York City. It is regarded as one of the premier marathons in the world.
