A routine singles match on WWE NXT took an unexpected detour when Booker T‘s phone rang in the middle of the action.
While Mason Rook and Jackson Drake battled in the ring, the Hall of Famer received a surprise FaceTime call that briefly stole the spotlight.
The unusual moment took place during the June 30 episode of NXT, adding an unexpected wrinkle to an already competitive matchup before the action quickly shifted back to the ring.
Kam Hendrix delivers return update during live WWE NXT match
As Mason Rook controlled the early stages of his match against Jackson Drake, Booker T’s phone suddenly went off at the commentary desk. Instead of ignoring it, the broadcast revealed that Kam Hendrix was calling the WWE Hall of Famer via FaceTime.
Hendrix used the opportunity to provide an update on his recovery, telling Booker T he was “about sixty-one and a half percent cleared” before adding that he’d “be back soon.”
It was certainly a call fans didn’t expect to answer during a live match. Talk about making a “run-in” without ever stepping through the curtain.
Once the brief interruption ended, the focus returned to the action between Rook and Drake. Rook continued to showcase his power, while Drake answered with his speed and resilience. Despite absorbing heavy offense, including a sit-down powerbomb, Drake refused to stay down.
The closing moments saw The Vanity Project become the deciding factor. Ricky Smokes and Brad Baylor attempted to interfere, only for Rook to take them out. However, Myka Lockwood found another opening, holding Rook’s foot in place while the referee’s attention remained elsewhere.
Drake capitalized by connecting with a lungblower before securing the pinfall with Lockwood’s leverage providing the final assist.
After the bell, Rook wasn’t finished. He retaliated by taking out Brad Baylor before sending Ricky Smokes crashing into him with a running backpack cannonball.
Although Jackson Drake walked away with the victory, the match will likely be remembered just as much for the unexpected FaceTime interruption as for the final result. On a night filled with action, Booker T’s ringing phone proved that in NXT, even the commentary desk isn’t safe from surprises.
