Paul Heyman is widely regarded as one of the smartest minds in professional wrestling. Along with being a legendary on-screen manager, he is also known for mentoring WWE talent behind the scenes. Former WWE star Killer Kross (earlier known as Karrion Kross) recently spoke about his experience with Heyman and explained what he thinks it means when Heyman stops giving advice to a wrestler.
Speaking on Crazy Train Radio, Kross said Heyman had a huge influence on him even before they met. He explained that watching Heyman’s interviews and documentaries helped him better understand wrestling psychology and improve as a performer during his time on the independent circuit.
Killer Kross says Paul Heyman always tells the truth
Kross said Heyman had a special way of explaining wrestling in simple terms, making it easier for wrestlers to understand how to connect with fans. According to Kross, those lessons helped him become a better performer long before he signed with WWE.
Kross also spoke about finally meeting Heyman after joining WWE. He admitted Heyman lived up to every expectation and has always been honest with him.
“Paul Heyman was somebody that I met and I’m very, very glad that I did get to meet him. I don’t have expectations on people when I’m meeting them. I think that’s unfair to them. But if I had expectations when I was meeting Paul, he definitely would have exceeded them. Like he’s a wonderful guy,” Kross said.
Kross believes that if Heyman takes the time to give someone advice, it means he sees potential in them. If he stays silent, it could mean he doesn’t think that wrestler has much to offer.
“He’s a straight shooter. He’ll tell you what’s up, and if he doesn’t tell you what’s up, he probably knows you’re no good,” Kross added.
In his eyes, getting honest feedback from The Wiseman is something every wrestler should value, not fear.
The comment also shows just how respected Heyman is backstage. From managing world champions on TV to mentoring younger stars behind the scenes, Heyman’s influence has stretched across multiple generations of professional wrestling.
