WWE reportedly had “significant” internal discussions about a Nick Aldis vs. GUNTHER match.
Former World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER had several verbal confrontations with SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, blaming him for the circumstances surrounding his multiple failed attempts to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. However, things turned worse when they had a physical altercation during the Night of Champions post-show after the Ring General once again failed to capture the title.
WWE later announced that both GUNTHER and Nick Aldis were sent home after their altercation and that the latter had been placed on administrative leave for an unspecified period. RAW General Manager Adam Pearce will also oversee SmackDown until Aldis returns.
Now, WrestleVotes Radio (via Fightful Select) reports that they have learned WWE has held significant internal discussions about an in-ring program between GUNTHER and Nick Aldis.
A Nick Aldis vs. Solo Sikoa Program Previously Gained Internal Traction in WWE
According to a source, the idea of Nick Aldis returning to the ring has been floated around on multiple occasions. One of those instances was in 2025, when a proposed program with Solo Sikoa gained some internal traction in WWE.
While the concept of GUNTHER vs. Nick Aldis had been discussed before, WrestleVotes notes that it was not in the context that’s currently unfolding. If the program does happen in WWE, the expectation is that it would be the Ring General facing Aldis himself and not the latter selecting someone to compete on his behalf.
Dave Meltzer also recently reported that WWE is planning a match between GUNTHER and Aldis at SummerSlam next month.
Nick Aldis hasn’t competed since October 2023. He has also never competed in a WWE ring before. He is a former TNA World Champion and once held the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship for 1043 days from October 2018 to August 2021.
