A longtime ROH veteran has announced he is stepping away from in-ring competition after undergoing a medical procedure to address a heart condition.
While fans can breathe a sigh of relief about his health, the experienced wrestler admitted he’ll be away from the ring for the time being as he focuses on recovery.
‘Brutal’ Bob Evans shared the update through his official social media accounts, revealing that he recently underwent cardioversion after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (A-Fib), a condition he said runs in his family.

Evans reassured fans that the procedure was successful and that he is already back home. He wrote (On IG), “I’m fine. But… Not how I wanted to spend my last couple of days. Back home now from the hospital. Got the A-Fib that my whole family has. Cardioversion put me back in rhythm but no in-ring wrestling for a while. Seminars are fine to do. Love you all.”
While his wrestling boots will remain on the shelf for now, Evans made it clear that he will continue hosting seminars, allowing him to stay connected to the industry even as he recovers. Sometimes the best tag partner is patience, and for now, that’s the one he’ll be leaning on.
Evans began his professional wrestling career in 1993. He has spent more than three decades working across ROH, WWE, and numerous independent promotions. Beyond his in-ring work, he has earned widespread respect as a trainer and mentor. He has helped develop talents such as Mike Bennett and Matt Taven. ROH fans also remember his memorable partnership and eventual rivalry with Cheeseburger.
For now, Evans’ focus is firmly on his health rather than championship pursuits. Although his in-ring return remains on hold, his continued involvement through coaching and seminars ensures his impact on the wrestling business is far from being counted out.
