Jeff Jarrett has opened up about why fans haven’t seen him compete inside an AEW ring for the past 18 months.
Rather than pointing to backstage issues or creative frustration, the WWE Hall of Famer offered a straightforward explanation while discussing his current role with the company.
Jarrett last wrestled for AEW on the January 29, 2025 edition of Dynamite, where Claudio Castagnoli defeated him.
Although he’s remained visible through AEW programming, his appearances have largely come behind the Zero Hour desk instead of between the ropes — proving that not every veteran is looking to “cash in” on ring time.
Jeff Jarrett says he’s ready whenever AEW calls
Speaking with Ariel Helwani, Jarrett explained that his current responsibilities are simply based on what AEW asks of him.
“Well, I do Zero Hour,” Jarrett said before clarifying that he has no backstage influence within the company.
“I’m very comfortable; I’m not in the creative department. I’m not in talent relations; I’m a talent.”
Jarrett emphasized that he views himself strictly as an on-screen performer, whether that means providing analysis or stepping back into the ring.
“When I’m called to do Zero Hour and be an analyst, I do it. When I’m called to wrestle, I’ll be a wrestler.”
Those comments make it clear that Jarrett doesn’t believe there’s any hidden story behind his in-ring absence. Instead, he’s content fulfilling whatever role AEW assigns him while remaining prepared if another match comes his way.
Outside AEW, Jarrett has stayed active by working occasional independent wrestling events. This ensures he’s still ring-ready despite not competing on AEW television since early 2025.
For now, Double J’s guitar may be resting in the corner, but it hasn’t been hung up for good. As things stand, Jarrett remains an active member of AEW’s on-screen roster. He served as a Zero Hour analyst while making it clear he’s willing to lace up his boots whenever the company gives him the nod.
