Tiffany Stratton understands that criticism comes with being one of WWE’s most popular stars.
Speaking with KFAN’s Maxx Fuller, the WWE Women’s United States Champion discussed how she approaches the constant opinions that circulate on social media. Stratton admitted that professional wrestling is an industry driven by opinions, and much of what happens on television is ultimately outside a performer’s control.
“Pro wrestling is a very opinion-based entertainment,” Stratton said. “Down to even the booking and stuff like that. Your fate is kind of decided by somebody else. You can’t really control whether or not you win a title or the fans like you or not.”
Stratton acknowledged that fans can sometimes influence the direction of storylines, adding that she believes they play a vital role in the success of WWE.
“The fans are the main reason why we have this company. I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion.”
Tiffany Stratton On Finding Value In Negative Feedback From WWE Fans
Rather than ignoring criticism entirely, Stratton revealed that she sometimes finds value in negative feedback. She said there are occasions when fans point out ideas or issues that she believes are valid.
“Sometimes I do see hate comments, and sometimes I think they’re kind of right. Sometimes I’m like, ‘You guys have a lot of cool ideas,’ or, ‘You’re right, that’s not working,’ or, ‘This is working.’ I take everything into account, whether it’s hate or it’s love.”
At the same time, Stratton stressed the importance of maintaining perspective and not becoming consumed by social media.
“If you believe the good on social media, you have to believe the bad on social media. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, and you can’t really let it affect you that much because if you do, you’ll just be sitting there reading hate comments all day long.”
She concluded by reiterating that fan feedback is an important part of the wrestling business and something she wants to consider.
“Everyone’s got something to say. It’s just the day and age that we live in. Wrestling is a very opinion-based business, and that’s okay. We’re here for the fans. I want to hear their opinions, and I want to take what they say into consideration.”
