Ethan Page says there was a point in his career when WWE made it clear they had no interest in signing him.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the RAW Superstar recalled receiving an email from WWE while he was preparing to leave TNA Wrestling. At the time, he had already informed the promotion that he would not be re-signing, but his future remained uncertain.
Page explained that he had been documenting his career through video blogs since his days in EVOLVE, capturing moments throughout his runs in TNA, Japan, England, and AEW. One of those recordings captured his reaction immediately after reading an email from WWE.
“There was the time I was leaving TNA, and I decided not to stay. In that window, I had gotten an email while in Nashville, recording the show for iMPACT, and the email was from WWE, telling me that they’re never going to hire me.”
Ethan Page Recalls His Reaction To WWE Rejection Email
According to Page, the message arrived at a difficult time, as he had already chosen to leave TNA and had no guaranteed destination. Although AEW was a possibility, nothing had been finalized.
“I just told iMPACT that I’m not staying. AEW was a possible option, but nothing was concrete. Then I get this email being like, ‘Yeah, we’re not hiring you, just stop.’ Pretty much this is the end of the road, it’s not gonna happen, just let it go.'”
Rather than letting the rejection discourage him, Page used it as motivation. He said he turned the camera on himself and documented his emotions in the moment.
“So I filmed myself right after reading the email, and then had a conversation with myself documenting it, pretty much being like, ‘You gonna be okay with this, or are you gonna like shove it up their ass?'”
Despite WWE’s apparent stance at the time, Page ultimately proved the company wrong, eventually signing with WWE and establishing himself as one of its featured performers.
