Charlotte Flair believes WWE hosting shows in the Middle East is “a step in the right direction.”
Former 14-time WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair sat down for an interview with WFAN’s Craig Carton and Chris McMonigle live from Fanatics Fest in New York City. During the conversation, McMonigle asked Flair how different WWE has grown over the years, especially for women, since she started with the company.
Flair emphasized how WWE has evolved into a mainstream global entertainment powerhouse through its massive media deals with platforms like Netflix and ESPN. She also took pride in being among the first women to compete in Middle Eastern countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
“Well, one, we are global, but for my group particularly, we were the first—I was the first woman to main event a pay-per-view, the first woman to main event WrestleMania. And then to go to Abu Dhabi, the first females to wrestle there. For the company to perform in Saudi Arabia, we are global. But to see the collaboration with Netflix, ESPN, it just makes us that much bigger and that much larger in the audience. I still think we have our [diehard], hardcore fans that follow us, but it’s been amazing to bring in new audiences to see what we do and to respect the business,” Flair said.

Craig Carton then noted that going to the Middle East “has to be crazy,” clarifying that Americans might have certain thoughts about what it’s like for a woman in the Middle East.
Charlotte Flair replied, “No, it’s awesome to be able to perform. No, for sure. I mean, we still have to wear the bodysuits, but I think that’s just a step forward in the right direction. And for little girls and little boys to see the opportunities that women are given within the ring and see that like, ‘Hey, I could do that.’ It’s so important; it’s bigger than us. It’s bigger than what we do.”
