WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam explains why he became a father after never wanting children.
During his recent appearance on the Edlow Podcast, former WWE Champion Rob Van Dam was asked how much he has changed since he and his wife Katie Forbes had twin daughters in December 2025. He noted that at 54 years old, he never wanted children, but decided to have them to fulfil his wife’s desire.
“It’s an awesome experience. I don’t know if it’s changed me very much. It’s definitely changed my opinion on kids, though. At 54 years old, I had never wanted kids ever. Didn’t have any paternal drive. But she did, and she wanted them so bad, and I wanted to fulfill her so so bad. I did not want her to live her life being unfulfilled and feel like she missed out on anything. That was a big drive,” the WWE Hall of Famer said.
“Just seeing how happy she was around kids, her nephews, her nieces, she’s the best aunt, she’s the best sister, she’s the best daughter. So she really taught me a lot about family values. My family, we all love each other, but I mean, I probably talk to my brother once every couple of years. My mom is like 86, and I should call her more,” RVD continued.
The WWE legend said his wife wanted kids more than he didn’t want to
“But Katie’s like every single day FaceTimes with her mom, with her sisters, with everybody. She’s so family oriented, which is really a good thing when you’re thinking about being a parent. But eventually I was just like, she really wants kids way more than I don’t want kids. Since we’re staying together through the whole run, no question about that, let’s see about having some kids,” the WWE legend went on.
“I never hung around kids. I didn’t know any babies. I didn’t know that much about them. So, I’m experiencing all of this live as it’s happening. I didn’t know that you could really interact with babies that young that much. They’re just six months now. But even like three months ago, just the way you look at each other and you can actually like communicate, and they have personalities,” RVD said.
“I don’t know, I guess I just thought that since I don’t remember anything before I was like three or four years old. So I just thought they’re like a toy until then (laughs),” the WWE Hall of Famer concluded.
