Ryan Reynolds managed to blend into one of the world’s biggest fan conventions before revealing he had been hiding in plain sight all along.
During San Diego Comic-Con, the actor spent time roaming the convention floor in disguise, and one of his stops included a memorable encounter with WWE Hall of Famer Sgt Slaughter.
The undercover appearance only came to light after Reynolds shared footage from the weekend while celebrating a major milestone for the Deadpool franchise.

Reynolds revealed that he walked the SDCC floor wearing a grey Uncanny X-Force version of the Deadpool costume, allowing him to mingle with fans unnoticed. According to the actor, he experienced the convention like any other attendee, with “no handlers, no security, no ropes.”
The disguise led to several crossover moments throughout the day. Reynolds posed with fellow Deadpool and Wolverine cosplayers, photobombed Darth Vader, shared a hug with Olaf, snapped a photo with a Joker cosplayer, and met WWE Hall of Famer Sergeant Slaughter for a classic pointing pose.
Reflecting on the experience in a social media (X) post marking 10 years since the first Deadpool film, Reynolds wrote:
“The fans got Deadpool off the ground so many years ago.”
He closed the message by thanking everyone he met before adding:
“WHAT A GIFT… Thanks to everyone I met, who aren’t only cosplaying but world-building. And also… actual Sergeant Slaughter!”
The surprises didn’t end on the convention floor. Still dressed in costume, Reynolds later crashed Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel by pretending to be an enthusiastic fan named “Ricky.” During the Q&A, he jokingly asked Robert Downey Jr. when filming for Avengers: Doomsday would begin, only for Downey to reply that the movie was already “in the can.”
Reynolds also referenced the lingering mystery of why Thor was crying in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, no new details about a possible Deadpool 4 or an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday were revealed. Even without stepping into a wrestling ring, Reynolds proved that keeping kayfabe alive for a day can still earn one of Comic-Con’s biggest pops.
