Former WWE star Ray Apollo recently shared stories about Vince McMahon. Apollo is best known for playing Doink the Clown. He portrayed the character after Matt Osborne’s WWE departure.
Apollo praised McMahon’s business skills but also criticized his leadership. He claimed injured wrestlers risked losing their jobs very quickly.

Speaking with Monte & The Pharaoh, Apollo discussed Vince McMahon’s management style. Apollo first praised McMahon’s impact on professional wrestling. “He’s a very good businessman, and he’s very intelligent. He’s not stupid. He revolutionized the wrestling business.”
He also admitted McMahon changed the industry forever. “It will never be the same as it was with all the territories. However, Apollo believed wrestlers deserved much better treatment. “Could Vince have been better to the boys? Sure. I think he could have treated the boys better.”
He said McMahon focused on business above everything else.
“Do I think he was evil and mean? No. I think he was a true businessman. I think he did everything he could for himself and his family.” Apollo then made a striking claim about WWE’s old environment.
“I think he could have treated the boys better. I mean, I mean, we would work, you know, 300 days a year, and if you got hooked on injury at four days in a row, you got fired. So, I mean, did he run a really tight ship? Do I agree with everything he did? No. But he’s worth $10 billion, and I’m not. So I guess he had the right prescription there.”
