Honorable Mentions:
1. Rey Mysterio vs Dolph Ziggler – there have been house show ads promoting Rey in number one contendership matches for the World Title. If that’s the case, we should see Dolph emerge victorious tonight and if that’s the case, look for him to head up the top of the mid-card division for a while. I like that idea, too. He’s not ready for the main event scene, but the Intercontinental Championship “should” help this promising star get ready for that slot in the future. Rey and Dolph have the ability to make this a show-stealer as well and is another reason to watch the pay per view, especially for the traditionalists out there who watch for the good wrasslin’.
2. Rowdy Roddy Piper – we reported exclusively last night that Piper is expected to make some sort of appearance on the pay per view tonight. If that’s the case, I hope it makes sense and allows him time on the microphone. He’s still got it, in my opinion.
3. The Other Wrestling – On paper, the wrestling should be pretty decent on this card. I mentioned a couple of the matches already, but there are others. Swagger and MVP should continue their series with a good match tonight if given proper time and Christian vs Regal ought to be a sound bout with two veterans. Maybe Khali as a face makes him more bearable to watch now? Okay, probably not, but enjoy Kane while you can as I don’t expect him to be around too much longer either.
Wrap-Up:
I’m amped and ready to go for tonight’s pay per view. I have a live fantasy football draft right before the pay per view as well, so I’ll already be in the mood for celebrating by the time the opening credit rolls. WWE needs to prove why SummerSlam is still one of the “Big Four” in wrestling pay per views and give us something to look forward to once it’s over.
Here’s to hoping they do!
