We reported the big news here this weekend that former wrestling champion Brock Lesnar was at the UFC 77 Pay-Per-View to announce he had signed with the company. Lesnar was interviewed on camera and said fighting for UFC is a dream come true and the culmination of years of hard work.
Details are starting to come in regarding his status. UFC President Dana White has stated that Brock Lesnar has signed a two-year contract with the company.
White also said the current plan is for Lesnar to have his first fight at UFC 81 on February 2nd. There is still no word on who his first opponent will be.
A press released issued by UFC shortly after the big announcement had the following quotes from Lesnar: âObviously I donât think Iâm ready for a title shot right away, but I will be there, and Iâm not gonna turn down any opponent because Iâm here to prove myself. Iâm not here to pick and choose my fights. Iâll fight whomever they want. I donât make the fights; thatâs not my job. Iâve got one job to do and thatâs to fight.â
UFC’s heavyweight division has no shortage of big names for Lesnar to fight. It will be interesting to see what Lesnar can do up against names such as Tim Sylvia, former PRIDE heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo â~Minotauroâ Nogueira, Cheick Kongo, Gabriel Gonzaga, Mirko Cro Cop and others.
