RAW opened up with a video package looking at last week’s trial of Eric Bischoff, and his eventual firing as the General Manager of RAW.

In the arena:

The music of Vince McMahon hit in the arena as Joey Styles, Jerry Lawler and the Coach welcomed us to the show. Vince got on the mic and said as promised…the mic then died. Vince got a new mic and said as promised last week, we took out the trash. He said last week he fired Eric Bischoff’s ass, and Eric Bischoff is going to stay fired. Not withstanding, he’d like to thank Eric for his contributions and wish him and his family a Merry Christmas. He said people have been asking who is going to be the new General Manager of RAW, and a number of individuals come to mind. One might be his daughter Stephanie McMahon, his son Shane McMahon, a guy who was knocking on his door all afternoon…Theo Epstein. It could even be Ted Turner or one of the fans…just ribbing, it’s not going to be one of the fans. He said tonight the interview process begins and an individual has been assigned to be the interim General Manager. That individual is thought of as a business icon and a genius, and that would be him, Vincent K. McMahon. He said he’s gonna start where Bischoff left off, and we will know every individual who will be in the Elimination Chamber by the end of the night. All five individuals will qualify tonight and will join WWE Champion John Cena in the chamber. He then said the audience would not be censored here tonight as Kurt Angle’s music hit…

Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match

Referee: Jack Doan

Kurt Angle vs. Ric Flair

Kurt Angle made his way to the ring and didn’t look happy with Vince McMahon as the fans chanted “you suck” at Angle and this is the first Elimination Chamber qualifying match and Angle will be facing the current Intercontinental Champion, Ric Flair!

The start:

Flair and Angle tied up and Flair took Angle down with a side headlock. Angle escaped and then Flair wooed before they locked up again. Angle grabbed a side headlock and Angle got Flair in the corner and then went to work with right hands. Angle continued his assault of Flair in the corner but then Flair came back with right hands and chops of his own. Flair nailed a big chop to take Angle off his feet, and then nailed another one.

Mid-match notes:

Angle came back with a German suplex and went for another but Flair held the ropes and elbowed Angle off. Flair nailed a chop but Angle came back with the Angle Slam. Angle took down his straps and locked in the Ankle Lock in the middle of the ring! Flair tried to make the ropes but Angle pulled him back in but then Flair made the ropes! Angle grapevined the leg as the referee forced him to break the hold and Flair bailed to the outside as we go to commercial.

Angle then grabbed a side headlock but Flair hit a back suplex to escape. Angle came back with an eye rake but missed a corner charge and hit the ring post shoulder first. Flair then took over with a chop block, and then another. Flair nailed some chops to the chest and then kicked at the knee before hitting a knee breaker and then went for the Figure Four and locked it in! Angle writhed in pain but made it to the ropes and Flair broke the hold. Flair nailed a chop in the corner and then Angle reversed a whip and hit an overhead belly to belly and then measured Flair for the Angle Slam.

The Finish:

Flair reversed it and sent Angle to the outside. Angle grabbed a steel chair and got back into the ring and went to nail Flair, but Flair blocked it and then while the referee was getting rid of the chair, Angle wrapped something around his hand and nailed him with a right hand and covered to get the win! Angle’s in the chamber. We go to the replay and we see it was the Gold Medal that Angle used to knock Flair out.

Winner – Kurt Angle

The Aftermath:

Angle got on the mic and said he will have to take the chant for granted, just like every single week he has to come out here and listen to them. He said next week, from Afghanistan, RAW is WAR will provide a special Tribute to the Troops. He said it was on a voluntary basis, and he is proud to say he didn’t volunteer. He said why would he fly 30 hours and risk his life for the troops of a country that doesn’t respect him. He said he isn’t that stupid. The people chant you suck, well guess what, he doesn’t suck. He won a gold medal with a broken neck and did the ultimate thing that anyone in this world can do. Let’s compare, the troops have done absolutely nothing! He said if they catch Osama he MIGHT go over and sign a few autographs. He said their perception of a hero is all wrong. Daivari then appears on the screen next to a statue of Larry Bird, and Angle said he just thought of something. He said why don’t they do to the hometown heroes exactly what they do to him. With that, Daivari spat right on the Larry Bird statue and then picked up a can of spray paint. John Cena then appeared and stood right in front of Daivari and grabbed the can and knocked him down sending him running.

Cena said Angle sends Daivari out here to spray paint Larry Bird? You’re better than that. Wait, no you’re not. He said he stands there in the ring saying he’s too good to visit the men and women who are dying and fighting for him, and that makes him a heartless bastard. He said he saw the soldiers who are not home for the holidays just so he can be, but that’s too good for Kurt Angle. He said half the people out there thinks he sucks too, and the people have the right to say what they want, when they want. He doesn’t care how many gold medals he has won. The fans chanted “USA, USA” as Cena said it’s time to face facts. He said without the troops that he is too good for, there is no America. He said with no America, there are no heroes, and if he can’t get that, then you can’t see him. Cena then spray painted the camera as we go to commercial.

Backstage:

Back on RAW and Ric Flair is shown backstage and Edge comes in with Lita. Edge asks if he’s going to go out and beat the crap out of someone else on the turnpike. Edge told Flair to settle down and asked what the lawyers would think if he was involved in another assault, with a woman no less. Edge and Lita laughed as they walked away.

Backstage:

Shawn Michaels is shown getting ready and Shelton Benjamin comes in. Benjamin said last week he asked for an attitude, and he gave him one, but he left him hanging. Michaels said Benjamin stuck himself in a situation where he wasn’t needed. Benjamin said Michaels was too busy trying to be the Showstopper rather than a team player. He said old habits die hard, selfish to the end. He said the only attitude HBK is interested in is his own. He said tonight he is going to give Carlito some of his attitude, and he’s going to the Elimination Chamber, and he wants Michaels in there too.

She said she has the best assets to be the best General Manager, making out like she was having an orgasm as she took off her top.
