Intercontinental Championship Match
Big E (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler
Big E and Ziggler lock up to start out the match, with the champion overpowering his opponent. Ziggler takes a break on the outside as we cut to our last short commercial of the night.
Ziggler is actually in control as we get back, hitting a big neckbreaker out of the corner. Big E levels him with a series of clotheslines, followed by a belly-to-belly slam. Ziggler hits a dropkick out of nowhere and both guys are down. Dolph is showing signs of slowing down early, as he already worked a 15-minute triple threat match earlier tonight. He gets caught with an S-T-O out of the corner.
Ziggler tries for the Zig-Zag, but the champ destroys him with a clothesline. Big E sets up for the Big Ending, bringing down the straps, but Ziggler hits a Fameasser for a count of two. He goes to the well again for the Zig-Zag, but Big E catches him and hits the Big Ending for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Big E
Ziggler and Big E hug it out after the match, and Dolph raises the champion's hand in victory to end the show.
Killam: Pretty OK match. Too short to really get things going, but most of tonight was spent on the opening match, so they didn't have much of a choice. Dolph and Big E are still buddies, it would seem, so the status quo hasn't changed at all. That's just fine. Any time one of the midcard titles gets pushed on any show it's progress.
Ultimately, the whole show – minus the forgettable Divas match – was to promote the Andre the Giant battle royal at WrestleMania. Big E walks into the match as the champion, but Sheamus, Alberto del Rio and Dolph Ziggler were all elevated as a result of tonight's Main Event. We got one good match, which is all I ask from a one-hour production.
