alberto del rioBellator MMA President Scott Coker mentioned this week that his fighting promotion has in fact reached out to former WWE Champion Alberto del Rio. Rumors began surfacing several months ago when ADR – real name, Jose Rodriguez – was fired by WWE after a physical altercation with a backstage employee, and picked up steam after CM Punk announced his multi-fight deal with the UFC.

Coker noted that “there’s some dialogue going on” between the two sides, but specified that the situation was “by no means in the 11th hour”, so any discussion at this point is in its preliminary stages.

Del Rio has amassed a professional record of 9-5 over the course of 9 years, with his last fight taking place just a few months prior to his WWE Smackdown debut. He is currently the AAA World Champion doing a lot of dates in Mexico, and is expected to appear for Lucha Underground at the next set of TV tapings in early 2015. He is also scheduled for several matches in Ring of Honor soon, and there has been multiple reports that TNA is interested in signing him as a major part of their Impact Wrestling re-launch in January.

KILLAM: As it turns out, getting fired may have been the best thing that could have happened to ADR. Unhappy in your role with a company, looking to get out…get fired and end up with every major promotion in the US trying to acquire you.
