UFC 196 Highlights: Holly Holm and Conor McGregor Both Lose via Submission, New Champions Crowned

According to Sherdog.com, Nate Diaz submitted the Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight titleholder Conor McGregor with a second-round rear-naked choke in the UFC 196 headliner on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. McGregor (19-3, 7-1 UFC) tapped 4:12 into round two, his 15-fight winning streak halted in decisive and dramatic fashion. The non-title bout was contested at 170 pounds.

In other 196 news, after defeating Ronda Rousey for the Women’s Bantamweight Championship in a stunning upset victory, Holly Holm lost her first title defense and was dominated in the second round of her fight against Meisha Tate.

Although Tate dominated the second round of the fight after taking Holm off her feet and nearly sinking in a rear-naked choke, Holm was the better fighter throughout the middle of the fight. The boxer jabbed routinely and delivered plenty of front and side kicks into the challenger’s body throughout. Holm won the first, third and fourth rounds before the challenger locked in a textbook rear-naked choke to put her to sleep.
