WWE Smackdown Results (7/25): Chris Jericho Returns, Huge Triple Threat Main Event For the US Title, John Cena Challenges Jinder Mahal

– WWE Champion Jinder Mahal came out to gloat about his Battleground victory and demanded a new opponent for SummerSlam. While he was speaking to “his fans” in Punjabi, John Cena’s music interrupted him and the 16-time world champion made his way to the ring. Cena congratulated Jinder and said that he respected the fact that he’s in the best shape of his life, and that the WWE title means so much that he’ll do whatever is necessary to keep it. That being said… Cena introduced himself as the guy from those pistachio commercials, and said he doesn’t care if he has a giant, the cast of SING, or a magic carpet because at SummerSlam he’s facing Super Cena. “It was nice to meet you, you can’t see me, hit the trumpets.”

– Before either man could leave, Daniel Bryan came out to the ramp and congratulated both for being successful at SummerSlam. He realized that Cena was on a quest to make history, but unfortunately it’s not up to him to make the matches on Smackdown. Bryan said even if your name is John Cena you have to earn your title shots around here. He announces that next week Cena will face Shinsuke Nakamura, and the winner will get the title shot at SummerSlam.

– After a commercial break we see Shane McMahon talking on the phone backstage. Kevin Owens came in to complain about having to face AJ Styles and Chris Jericho in the same night because it wasn’t fair. Shane correctly stated that both men were owed contractual rematches and he doesn’t care who the champion is, as long as it’s defended on Smackdown for the fans. Owens said he doesn’t care about the fans, and if he weren’t the Commissioner he wouldn’t give a damn about him either.
