WWE 205 Live Results (8/22): Akira Tozawa Gets His Rematch for the Cruiserweight Title, Gentleman’s Duel, WWE Raw Star Debuts & More

Backstage Segment

TJ Perkins is playing WWE 2K17 in the locker room. Rich Swann tried to get a word with him and TJP uses the crutches that he doesn’t need to turn off the television. Swann wants to know what the hell happened last week, and Perkins tried to play up that he had no idea what the problem was. He said that Swann messed up by losing to Daivari and that had nothing to do with him, and said that the competition has gone too far between them. Perkins said he was injured and told him to focus on not losing to Airya again.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship

Neville (c) vs. Akira Tozawa

The champion took control immediately with a side headlock, and kept the pressure on Tozawa as the match continued, yelling at the crowd and Titus to shut up. There were enough people left in Brooklyn to start a “you are a wanker” chant, so that’s a thing. Both men went for stiff kicks and caught each other, then had a stare down. They brawled around the ring until Tozawa took control with rapid rights and lefts, throwing elbows and shoulders and everything he had to keep the champion down. He hit a running kick to counter a sunset flip, but Neville bailed to the floor and avoided a suicide dive. The challenger went after him but got caught in the ropes, and his shoulder was wrenched down hard re-exposing the previous injuries. Neville slowed things down yet again, focussing on the shoulder and left arm.

After several minutes Tozawa again fought back, hammering away with elbow strikes, but Neville caught him with a shotgun dropkick to send him flying to the floor. An uncharacteristic champion then mounted the ropes and connected with a huge moonsault all the way to the outside, landing on his feet. The referee checked on Akira, who was in very bad shape clutching his arm. Neville slammed his shoulder hard into the LED board and apron, as Titus O’Neil looked very concerned for his client. He continued the assault by throwing him into the barricade over and over again, as the announcers started to think the match should be ended. The champion rolled him back into the ring and went up, waiting for his moment, but Tozawa dropkicked the ropes out of nowhere to send him crashing. The challenger began a desperate battlecry and the Brooklyn crowd got behind him. He connected with a big boot on the apron and this time connected with the flying suicide dive.

They fought out to the apron with Tozawa planting another thunderous kick to the jaw, but he couldn’t get a three-count. He went up to the top after a suplex looking for that senton bomb, but Neville crotched him to save the match. Both guys started throwing fists on the top rope, but it was Neville that connected with a superplex; Tozawa rolled through it and almost got three. Neville connected with an inverted falcon arrow and doubled him over for the pin, but the challenger somehow got his shoulder up just in time. Akira started throwing weak hands but they barely connected and the champion started mocking him. Tozawa threw a ridiculous strike that nearly knocked out Neville, with a murderous look in his eyes. He followed up with a running boot, a series of spin kicks, but Neville caught him in the Rings of Saturn out of nowhere. Tozawa rolled through it into a pin and they went back and forth into pinning combinations, but neither would stay down. The challenger hit another sick kick, then went up top for the senton, but he came up empty and Neville locked in a second Rings of Saturn to pick up the win.

Winner and Still Champion: Neville

Neville got on the mic and called Akira Tozawa’s title reign a complete joke at just six days, and a mere footnote in the history of HIS championship domination. Enzo Amore came out…. He did his entire shtick and the Brooklyn crowd chanted along with him. He proclaimed that 205 Live just became the realest show in the room, and dropped the mic in front of Neville. The champion laughed at him and left the ring, but Enzo wasn’t done. He said that Neville wasn’t a king, because there’s only ONE WORD to describe him…
