Cody Rhodes Comments On Growing As ROH Champion, Introducing The ‘Ring’ Of Honor, Getting Pointers From Steve Austin

Cody Rhodes spoke with Brian Fritz for Sporting News in advance of Friday night’s Ring Of Honor Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view; you can read a few highlights below:

Cody Rhodes shares his outlook on being ROH Champion and how it has changed him:

“I wanted to be world champion my whole life. Ring of Honor, with the reputation it has, it’s a legitimate world championship. It’s definitely changed my outlook on what I do in the ring and it’s changed my outlook on how I am as a person.”

Cody comments on introducing the ‘Ring’ of Honor:

“I’ve really taken to it. Not only taking the world championship but we’ve done something different. I will still carry the title if I feel so like I want to but the official Ring of Honor has been brought into the forefront and having fans and individuals I work with kiss the ring. The dark side of you, the dark side of me, gets a huge kick out of it.”

Press Release: Cody Rhodes Signs Exclusive Contract With Ring Of Honor

Cody comments on Steve Austin giving pointers after his match against Kazuchika Okada at G1 Special in USA:

“I went outside to the parking lot and Steve Austin, who had watched the show, is yelling at me across the parking lot to come talk to him. He gave me a few pointers on what he saw and he praised the show overall and he seemed to like my match. Man, that was a really touching thing. Who isn’t a fan of ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and what he’s done for wrestling? To get his pointers, to get his feel, to hear that he enjoyed it.

“It was just a cool moment in time. And then Jim Ross jumped in. I’ll treasure that moment forever because I’ve seen my dad when he was a booker talk to ‘Stunning’ Steve Austin, give him a pep talk. What a time to be alive when 20 years later that something like that is happening again.”
