NEW JAPAN PRO WEDNESDAY: New Six Man Tag Team Champions Crowned, New Stipulation Added To Omega/Jericho, Jay White Attacks Tanahashi & More NJPW News!

New Stipulation Added To Jericho vs. Omega

It was announced over the weekend that Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho will be contesting their IWGP United States Championship Match under No Disqualification Rules. The announcement was made in reaction to Jericho’s brutal and bloody attack on Omega during the World Tag League Finals. As most New Japan title matches feature a certain amount of leeway (all of Omega & Okada’s matches have included tables) the No Disqualification stipulation promises a level of violence not seen in sometime on the Wrestle Kingdom stage.

Kenny Omega Featured In Rolling Stone

Kenny Omega was interviewed by Rolling Stone Magazine, published 12/13/2017. In the interview he discusses his upcoming No Disqualification match with Chris Jericho:

We could make this a technical masterpiece if we wanted to, but at the end of the day, I feel like the way to capture the attention of not only the common fan but the longtime fans was to give them something old school. I don’t think there’s been blood in a New Japan ring for nine, 10 years. If there had been, we wouldn’t have gone about it that way.

The Cleaner also made an old-school comparison to his new feud:

There’s an almost Hogan v. Macho Man, old-school buildup happening.

Yeah, it is a little Hogan/Macho Man, with [color commentator] Don Callis playing the role of Elizabeth. [Laughs]

Cody vs. Kota Ibushi Now A Non-Title Match

After losing his Ring of Honor Championship to Dalton Castle, Cody [REDACTED] will find himself facing Kota Ibushi in a non-title match at Wrestle Kingdom 12. The match was originally set to be an ROH title match. NJPW Chairman Naoki Sugabayashi also announced that Brandi Rhodes will be accompanying her husband in his non-title match.
