To kick off 2018, naysayers again announced the imminent demise of Impact Wrestling. With the departure of numerous top names to WWE, they said, the company had reached the end of the road.

Though the exit of names like EC3, the Hardys, James Storm and Bobby Lashley proved a short-term stumbling block, management answered the challenge in stellar fashion. Don Callis and Scott D’Amore turned the depletion of Impact’s main event roster into an call to create a new class of of future legends.

The result has been some of the most outstanding, consistent and compelling television the company has produced in years. To follow are five acts making Thursdays on POP! must-watch TV.

SAMI CALLIHAN

When a baseball bat shot to Eddie Edwards’ face went horrendously wrong earlier this year, Sami Callihan ran with it. Instead of apologizing, such brutality soon became a calling card for “The Draw.” Since, Callihan has become one of the most violent, compelling onscreen personas in recent memory — to the benefit of everyone involved.

Callihan not only reinvigorated Ohio Versus Everything, whose 2017 tag title push as babyfaces rang hollow with fans. The brash, bold leader of OvE offered an edge the Crist Brothers alone sorely lacked.

With Callihan by their side, OvE now feels like a candidate again for tag title glory. Malicious Callihan, brutal and intent on destruction, can be placed in the ring with anyone — and bring out their best.

Take for example his instrumental role  in the onscreen transformation of a beloved but bland former World Champion, who becomes Impact’s  next “Must Watch” persona.
