WWE was handed a rare opportunity when Brock Lesnar returned. He was the “real guy.” He posed a realistic threat to anyone, even Undertaker’s streak at next year’s WrestleMania.
But you couldn’t beat him. The minute Lesnar loses a fake wrestling match, he’s no longer the “real guy.” He’s just another WWE “superstar.” Another fake wrestler.
So, naturally, Lesnar lost his first match back. His first WWE match in eight years. It was a good match. Lesnar dominated, highlighting Cena’s resilience. Lesnar certainly didn’t come off as impotent. But Lesnar lost. The “real guy” lost.
I just don’t see the upside. WWE, for better or worse, is based on trading wins. Everybody gets their turn. Wins and losses, for better or worse, don’t mean very much in “sports entertainment.”
But Lesnar should have been the exception. He had too much going for him. WWE prides itself on being able to tear guys down, then build them back up. But what’s the point of tearing Lesnar down? He dominated the match, but he LOST. “Real guys” don’t lose. That's how they become “fake guys.”
The former champ of the biggest MMA organization in the world came into WWE, and LOST RIGHT AWAY. You can never build Lesnar back up to that point, not even within the context of WWE’s twisted alternate universe. It was DUMB.
If you disagree, use the space below generally reserved for the STUPIDEST of the STUPID and tell me: What was the point? How did WWE, as a company, possibly benefit? Lesnar could have been a game-changer. That's been extinguished.
I’m not crying for Lesnar. He doesn’t care AT ALL about winning or losing in a fake sport. Brock just wants to get paid. It’s easy to beat guys that won’t complain. Maybe that’s why WWE did it.
Everything done by a wrestling promotion is supposed to benefit the company, or lead to something that benefits the company. I’m all ears, marks. Enlighten me, please.
For the most part, I enjoyed Extreme Rules. Decent matches, decent storytelling. Jericho and Punk are proving what two committed professionals can do if they ignore the surrounding lunacy and put 100 percent effort and thought into their craft.
Who did Miz anger? He lost to a cartoon character using a cartoon finisher. YIKES.
