Will Money in the Bank Be Successful in 2012?

Josh Isenberg

WWE Money in the BankFor the past few years, Money in the Bank has been something to look forward to. From the inception at Wrestlemania 21, this match has been creeping up on the level of importance in which the Royal Rumble holds. This event became even more important because the success rate of cashing in is 100 percent. Basically, whoever grabs the briefacse will become champion in the next 12 months. I am a huge fan of Money in the Bank, and was extremely happy that it got its own Pay Per View. Wrestlemania has lived on without this match, even though it seems the card is a little soft at times. Nonetheless, the WWE is in a critical stage this year because they have two matches that are on two complete ends of the spectrum.

The WWE Championship Money in the Bank ladder match features all previous champions. I was not a fan of this announcement for a few reasons. Do we really need John Cena to win a gimmick match to earn an opportunity to face the champion? Do we really believe that The Big Show can carry a feud for longer than two months as WWE Champion? Does a veteran like Kane need the briefcase? Lastly, will Chris Jericho be around long enough to have the importance of carrying that illustrious contract? All of the answers are "NO!" If you add former champions with younger talent, you create suspense and drama. If you have all former champions, are the fans really going to care?  This match was built to create the future, not recreate the past.

We have seen Dolph Ziggler tease abecoming World Champion for months. We have been made to believe Wade Barrett will become the next great superstar, and become a champion. What would be a better way than to see one of those guys climb over Cena to capture the opportunity to become a World Champion? That is why the idea of having former champions exclusely is ridiculous. Another man's legacy can begin at the expense of a former WWE Champion. Just look at what happened a year ago with Daniel Bryan.
